Mapping India’s smart proteins and ingredients biomanufacturing potential

GFI India is inviting proposals from research and consultancy firms to conduct a study mapping India’s existing biomanufacturing capacity for fermentation-derived smart proteins and ingredients.

Background

India has established itself as a global biomanufacturing hub underpinned by its large and growing bio-industrial sector. As the Union Government works toward a $300 billion bioeconomy by 2030, smart proteins have been identified as key growth drivers. Precision and biomass fermentation are transformative platforms in this space, securing significant global investment and presenting a major opportunity for the Indian biomanufacturing sector to scale sustainable proteins.

Despite these favourable conditions, a critical knowledge gap remains regarding India’s current biomanufacturing capacity for fermentation-derived smart proteins and ingredients. Through this Request for Proposals (RFP), we are seeking a research and consultancy firm to execute a study to map and evaluate this capacity. The partner’s key responsibilities include:

Key information

We are looking for a research and consultancy firm with a strong background and track record in the biotechnology and biomanufacturing industry, including food, bioindustrials, and/or biopharma sectors. The maximum budget for the project is INR 15,00,000, and it is expected to be completed within four months.

If you are interested in highlighting India’s smart protein manufacturing potential to the world, we encourage you to reach out to us at indiacollab@gfi.org by March 15, 2026.
